What can I add that hasnt been said already? The MOG was truely a unique place at that timeframe. My memories of the swedish group that allowed me into their area and make friends will last forever. Not only in my mind but in my grandchildrens as well as i tell them the story of the Parasite.

I too knew Spc.Mark Gutting. I was stationed with him in Panama and was his roomate. It was very upsetting news and I considered him my best friend while at Ft. Clayton for years. I was just thinking about him this last Veterans Day and am buying him a brick with his name on it for a VFW walk in my new hometown of Oelwein, IA.He wrote me a letter just before the incident and I haven't read it since.

I was in Mogadishu with the 977th mpco . I only have a couple of pics. These pics took me back there. I think about those months every day.

I can remember the Swedish Hospital/soldiers very well!..Was a guest, and enjoyed the hospitality. Great people and hell of a summer memory. I was the Commander of "parasite" or Johnny G. who adopted you guys. I also remember the 8 August incident with 300th MP Co. So sad!, I was going to take that same route,that day? Served in Somalia with HHC 43rd CSG, May to Aug 93. Thank God for you guys! Great pics!

I was stationed in somalia in 93 and i lost many friends there. Spc Mark Gutting was a good friend of mine from the same city in michigan that i lived in. I was asked to be a part of a PSD(protective service detatchment), bodyguard for general williams. Upon leaving my hummer Mark gave me a high five and got in my empty seat. Later that vehicle was destroyed by a land mine. I still have emotional trouble about this because Mr.Gutting asked me to look after his son. RIP MARK,KEITH,MICHAEL P.S. October 3 and 4 was no picnic either(Black Hawk Down)K4 circle,the soccer stadium.

I was based out of the Mogadishu Airfield, part of task force Raven 1993-1994. Our tents were right next to the mess hall which was next to the helicopter hanger at the end of the airport runway. Made many friends and lost a few.

It's such a strange feeling, seeing photos from a place you know so well - but not recognize any of the people.. I was at the Swedish Field Hospital September-December 1993(SO04). What an experience this was for me.. Normally a regular bank clerk back home...

I was with the 300th MP Co. stationed in Mog. April to August '93. Worked out of the University the Airport and the Port. I was involved with MSR patrols and with facility security. Was also assigned to the 10th Mountian QRF. None of the pictures I took survived the trip back. So it is nice to see some that survived from other people.

It's coming up on 15 years! It still all seems so fresh. I was stationed with the 977th MP Company, just next to the Swedish Camp.

I was in Somalia as part of Operation Continue Hope with the 3rd Battalion 15th Infantry. What an experience, one I will never forget. If you saw "Club Skinny" painted on any walls, that was us. We were security and conducted patrols at Victory Base, The Boat House, the main port, the airport and various roads connecting all points. I would like to trade memories and/or pictures with anyone else that was there. I also cant remember the name of one of the DJ's that was on the air in the Mog, but he was hilarious and really kept our spirits up. Contact me at vancheesey@hotmail.com

Came to Mogadishu, Somalia with my U.S. Army medical unit during May to September 2003. What a learning experience!!! I remember seeing Somalian childen with old gunshot wounds that were never cared for...really sad. It caused me to realize how blessed I was to be an American! I pray Somalia would some day become a place of peace...seeing the pics were great! I'm glad your website exists for Operation Continue Hope veterans!!

Ja det är väl inte bara ni som fattas på bild. De stolta pågarna på tvätten representeras inte alltför mycket heller. De borde finnas många fina bilder vid lakansvikningen.

Hallo!
Nice pictures,its bringing lots of memory back from a very interesting time down in Somalia, its only one thing that i miss and that is some picture on the Pioneers.
