Great Ocean Road

EDIT: I have since revisited the GOR and have included recent images in this gallery.
Work sent me to Melbourne for 2 weeks in March of 2006.
On the free Saturday I headed off before day break along the Great Ocean Road bound for Pt Campbell.
It was near enough to a 600km round trip in a day and what a road it is !
Managed to catch a sunrise at Geelong and some lovely early morning light at both Torquay and Bells Beach.
The road then meanders along a beautiful coastline.
There are plenty of parking bays that allow long looks at some spectaular scenery.
Made it to the 12 Apostles (only 6 or seven left these days) just before midday.
The pillars and arches that do remain are an incredible sight and worth seeing anytime of day.
What made it an even more amazing experience was watching as an ocean fog rolled in of Bass Strait and completely enveloped the coast.
I made for Pt Campbell, bought lunch and began the trip back to Melbourne.
Some 100km down the road I finally drove through the fog just south of Lorne.
Spit Water was a little way along and made a good place to appreciate what a phenomena an ocean fog is.
I have it in mind to make a return visit and next time, take more than just the one day !

Just watched an Australian Geographic DVD on the G.O.R with Sorrel Wilby I know you would like it...the walking track looks fantastic.
