I'm not kidding! This maker of this product actually named it "Bill." This product is an aid to training the wild birds around your yard to feed from your hand. Ordinarily this is a painstaking task, requiring you to spend many hours outdoors standing (or sitting) as still a statue, creeping a bit closer to the feeder every day, so the birds will get comfortable with you. Since this process works best in the winter, when birds are hungry and more apt to take chances, this could mean standing in the rain and/or snow! This guy is meant to stand in for you so you don't have to. Then when the time is right, all you have to do is stand in for him.
I was looking through old issues of BIRDS & BLOOMS and found ads for "Bill Bird-in-Hand" at Country Store 1-800-558-1013 (www.countrystorecatalog.com) After viewing these posts close up, I think I can save $39.99 by making this myself.

We have enjoyed having our Bill help feed the many birds that visit us throughout the year.
We even had a rabbit eating out of his lap during an unusually snowy spring.
Bill is actually heading to a 3 day birding festival my Audubon chapter is hosting. I'm putting on a clean denim shirt and a fresh cap (the other is full of holes from hungry birds which liked the seed (sunflower hearts or chips) I placed up there for them.
Since Bill resides on the deck just outside our dining room table, I have quite a few Bill pictures.
