Puffins, Razorbills and Arctic Terns of Machias Seal Island 2004
These birds spend most of their lives at sea, and come to this remote island only to breed, hatch and fledge their young, and for some much needed R & R. This island serves as the rookery for over 3,000 puffins, by far the largest breeding assemblage of Atlantic Puffins in the Gulf of Maine.
