Michael Crichton discussing environment.jpg

Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco, CA

Since he was critical of the urban environmentalists who perpetuate the "religion" of environmentalism, a questioner in the packed 500-person audience asked when was the last time author Michael Crichton was out in the environment. Crichton responded that he had been in the Costa Rican rain forests only two weeks earlier. In fact, Crichton has traveled in some of the remotest places in the world, and has seen the environment first hand.

Update November 5, 2008: Michael Crichton died at age 66 after a battle with lung cancer. This great storyteller enriched our popular culture with his exciting and provocative novels, screenplays, and movies. His urbane charm and intelligence will be missed by many, many admirers.

Hi Nick:
Thanks for the interesting background on Michael Crichton. He really proved to be a charming person and a good conversationalist. But then a novelist should be able to carry a conversation! After so many novels and so much success, he would probably enjoy hearing from those who knew him "when."

Thanks for the image - I haven't really seen him since college when my roommate was helping him proof the galleys of the "great american novel". None of us thought about it until Andromeda Strain was published......

Despite the cat-calls on DPR, I believe you frequently capture the spirit of the person, and that the political views pro or con have no bearing on the captures.

Thanks
