USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72

Family Day

April 16, 2009

John, Ken and Mike get invited for a day cruise aboard the Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln stationed at The US Naval Port in Everett, WA.
The trip included departure from the port early in the morning. Escorted on each side of the ship with US Coast Guard Cutters, we steamed out heading toward the north side of Whidbey Island.
During our trip north, we got to see a Trident submarine to our port side.
We were then treated to a very personal air show put on by the VAQ-139 Cougars flying the EA-6B Prowler. 3 Prowlers showed up doing flybys and then to our surprise, several touch-n-goes!!
What a treat for ALL of us. After the air show, we did a hard right turn to head back to Everett. The wind picked up, so the Captain requested the flight deck be cleared so no one would be blown over the side.
Lastly, we all found out how long it really takes to dock a Aircraft Carrier. I think it was about a hour and a half.
Thanks to all for their time putting this on for us, especially the Navy Personnel.
Thank You for serving and protecting our great country.
( and if you ever need a photographer during a cruise, just let me know! )
Looking down the Flight Deck catapult toward the Bridge. The tug Z-826 Washtucna helped us get away from the dock and get underway. Want to join the NAVY? Here are your sleeping quarters. Looking out one of the hanger bay doors.
