The Main Dam is located in the upstream course of the Yang-tze River. One third of the hydropower plant in the Main Dam was already in operation by late 2002. After the complete blockage of the river flow as can be seen on the left of the panorama, the construction to complete the remaining structure of the Main Dam will be rushed and aim for commissioning in 2006. First stage flooding of the areas upstream of the main dam is scheduled in 2003.
