Vann Wardrup, who took the clock as a souvenir carved some information in the housing which is indeed valuable as it identifies the clock as the White 13's clock. It says: "Ittersdorf Germany" The area in Germany where the plane went down. Well, in fact Ittersdorf is not the official shoot down area as this is Oberfelsberg which is just a short hop further east. However, I think that Mr. Wardrup was based in Ittersdorf and when he approached the plane he came from there...
It further says "JAN.1.1945, PLANE ME 109" which needs no further explanation, except that this was the only 109 shot down near Ittersdorf that day so it is proven that this is Herbert Maxis Flight Clock.
The "R 154" at the bottom is a mystery. I tried to find out and I tried hard but had no success although I talked to vets and flight engineers and even to people which are really known as warbird specialists...
