GI's take a look at the scene, the dead pilot still lies near the left wing.

Not all GI's on the picture are from the 455th AAA, it is likely that also GI's from other units, especially from the 204th Field Artillery Battalion, the 551st and the 739th FA Battailon appear on this shot. All of the mentioned where close to the area the plane was shot down.
Take a look at the background where you can see a truck and a Jeep. The Jeep is parked close to the tree (center of photo). Compare this shot to the one where Herbert Maxis' body has been removed and where you can see the puddle of blood (photo #19). The Jeep is visible in the other shot (#19) too.

This means that both photos have been taken the same day within a short time frame. On the other photo the Jeep is there but the body of Maxis has been removed.

The Jeep is most likely the car of Cpt. James Parsons the commander of the 455th A Battery.

Herbert Maxis was shot by a GI from the 739th Field Artillery Battalion, Company 'A'. His name has never been brought forth. Maxis has been listed as MIA since 1945. His dog tags were apparently taken. Can anyone help in locating the grave? It must be in the Saarlouis (Saarlautern) area, possibly at Elm, Germany (7 mi. away).
