Catalina Outrigger Canoe Race 2002

These are pictures shot by Bob Berghell and friends (Dave Sonke and Jeff Erickson) on the Catalina Crossing from Newport Beach to Avalon on Saturday September 7, 2002. The crossing took over 5 hours. The teams in this race were both Co-ed and women. Our team was composed of mostly 19 and under girls and two old guys (Bob & Neil) and two younger guys (Louie & Kaimana). For the first time I got to paddle with my daughter Lauren in the Catalina race (my 4th crossing and her 3rd).
