One day in or around 1960, Joyce and I caught a train from Birmingham
New Street to Lime Street, Liverpool, armed with our cameras (mine was
an Aries Reflex 35, a sort of Japanese version of the Zeiss Contaflex)
and a photographic permit from the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board.
Although we both enjoyed the day immensely, we never did get around
to repeating it. It's too late now, of course. Freight is now carried in
containers on Ro-Ro (Roll On, Roll Off) ships and by air and Liverpool's
dockland has since been transformed into areas for leisure.
Dear Keith,
Great gallery. Interesting and well taken pictures. With my family we did the Manchester Ship Canal cruise in the summer which was very enjoyable - pictures on my gallery if you were interested. There are also pictures of the Manchester Ship Canal and Docks from 1982 when I was a student in Manchester, though the 1982 pictures are not of the same quality as yours.
Best wishes,
John

Greatly enjoyed these pictures of Liverpool before the container revolution.
