This is a fantastic photo. The distant glare of the street light and the approaching/receding figures adds so much to the atmosphere of this shot. The bus stop in the near ground adds the 'date stamp' to this picture. Absolutely brilliant !

Rfer. Wonderful image, just add a horsedrawn bus, and put top hats on the distant silhuetts-----. I was born in Heathfield Road maternity Hospital, Sept 1941. According to my mom--there were airaid sirens wailing(it might have been me---?) Although we left Brum for the West country in late 1954, I had a great childhood, with memories of streets like these, in a time of shortages and make do--but as most of the people we knew were having the same experiences, we didn't miss any of the luxuries kids have today. We mostly played outdoors, and had fantastic imaginations to compenste. I'm told the Hospital is now gone, but if anyone knows of a good photograph of it, I would like to buy a copy. Cheers Rfer.

I lived about 100 yards from this spot - takes me back to the days when we all lived in black and white. Right next to this bus stop was a wine shop - a rarity in those days - called "Douro Wines", and a sweet shop. The other side of the road was a large bomb site that later became a caravan sales pitch. Just about where the figures are standing was a newspaper shop, run by Mr. Knowles. 1959 was a bitterly cold winter.

Excellent. This has an almost ghostly feel. Thanks for sharing these great old shots.
