Tame Road shops

Witton, Birmingham

These were my local shops. The buildings are still
there but so many of the businesses have closed, and
with the spectre of a Tesco being built on the site
opposite, the future looks to be no rosier for them.

Update: Tesco's application has since been withdrawn,
but they've now built a new supermarket in Aston Lane.

Hi Keith, I used to live in Brantley Road until I went into the Scots Guards in 1953.My aunt and uncle (Palmer) used to run the fishing tackle shop next to Hands corner shop. Some of my cousins lived nearby also my grandfather.

My nan used to own the newsagents in this pic, we lived in Brantley Road, then moved to the newsagents and lived at the back and above it, my nan (Lilian Casey) and my grandad and my Auntie Kath used to run it, and I used to do a paper round. Does anyone remember?

Yes that corner white building is still a cafe, and it changed ownership again very recently.

This photo brings back lots of memories - one of my aunts used to run a cafe on one of the corners along tame road and it could be the building showing on the far right of the picture. There are a lot more pictures in this collection that I know very well, I was born in Lozells, grew up in Well Street, Hockley, later moved to Perry Common Road and now live in Tamworth. These all bring back a lot of memories, mostly good. Many thanks for sharing them with us. p.s. Does anyone know where to find any photos of Well Street, Hockley? We lived here from 1952 to 1961 when the houses were demolished?
