Amazingly, they were still there the last time I passed by.

I use to live 4/216 bridge st west in the 60 with mam and dad jack and lily flynn we had some fantastic times there xxx

I remember my uncle Joe had this café, I worked Saturdays cleaning the tables as a lad in the summer holidays,

I used to walk past these shops/cafe on my way to school at St. Chads. There's a public toilet there that saved a little boys undies quite often!! I lived just off Summer Lane on Hanley Street. Thanks for the memories!!!

In the 90s my late grandad Jim Hamilton took over that cafe & called it the grub tub (if anyone remembers) thanks very much keith for these great pics.

From what i can remember the papershop owner used to be called jenny and the shop on the end next to joes cafe used to do the best cakes in the citycentre we used to go there when we finished school that was St georges round the corner and used to walk home back to the gunmakers arms pub i think it was between 1973 and 1978

The “Hand Made Bread” bakery was owned by a Mr Barry Loat.
A regular stop for me as I worked at the Ambulance Station in Henrietta St, for many years.

i have been looking at your site and i have tried to email you but to no avail, i was told about you by john houghton at aston history, and he said for me to get in touch with you, well i call myself the summer lane kid, as that was were i was brought up and i do have a fair size collection of photos of that area, schools pubs etc, and i am always looking for more photos, i recognise you have copyright and i can honestly tell you i would not abuse it for anything if you could help me, my aim is not to let the old end die, keep it going by all means,in the future i am going to try and get my own site set up so i would welcome any assistance whatever, hoping you reply to this email brian harding
