My 35mm Film Camera Collection

My oldest camera was an Olympus 35RC when I bought a Kodak Retinette
at a car boot sale. I put a film in it and roamed Sutton Park for an hour
with it, enjoying the feeling of brown polished leather and shiny metal so
much that it set me looking for other older models with more impressive
pedigrees. Retinas and Voigtländers led me to want Leicas and Contaxes
but they were priced out of reach. Russian 'versions' however were afford-
able and so began a collection, of which the Retinette was the originator!

I had just given up smoking and rather than let the money saved just be absorb-
ed into the bills, I decided to spend it on cameras that I fancied. I feel
sad though that my fancy has since drifted towards digital cameras and
most of these would be for sale if I could only decide which ones !

A splendid collection. Beyond the cameras, I love the photos themselves. They have the vintage look/feel of equipment photographs from user manuals and magazine ads of the 40's and 50's. I particularly like the Ukrainian/Russian rangefinders. A while back, I thought I had given up collecting vintage cameras when I sold off my collection of Rolleiflexes. Then I bought a Kiev. And then another. And then ...

You have small fault in your cameras pictures: zorki-4 with Industar-26 lense from Fed-2, zorki-6 with Industar-61 lense from fed-3, fed-2 with Industar-50 lense from zorki-6 and fed-3 with Jupiter-8 lense from zorki-4. Best regards. Arik, Israel.

Had Olympus RC35 years ago seeing it here brought back old memories. Was a great little camera and just small enough to be pocketable as I recall. Always took a good picture on auto. Quality instrument. Like you I am digital now and I like it Canon A80. Incidentally I think your collection of pictures is an important work. Have you thought about locating the shots on overhead Google Earth format so that future generations will be able to see where the scenes were taken.

I use a Helios 44 on my Canon 30D DSLR with an adaptor. Amazing lens that cost me £4.65 delivered off ebay :-) Nice to see it in its 'rightful' place on your old Zenit!

Re your Retina IIIc, I have a similar model but with folding shutter over the meter window. The meter dial is also different. I bought in in Hong Kong about 1957 for £40 as far as I remember. Ther body number is 261554.
