This gallery of photos documents the restoration of a classic 4” Unitron telescope. Following the before and after photos of the lens are photos taken on January 9, 2005 of the telescope as it was received.

The next series of photos taken on February 2, 2005 are after disassembly and cleaning of the mount, telescope tube, and tripod. The lens has been disassembled cleaned and correctly reassembled. The dents and field stops and hardware have been removed from the telescope tube. Fortunately the brass tube is not work hardened, so the dents were very easy to completely remove. As soon as I can assemble the mount I will photograph the repared tube. It is nice to see it with out all of the dents.

The mount has been disassembled, degreased and inspected for damage and alterations by previous owners. An inventory of missing parts has been made and a search for replacements is underway. At this time March 7, 2005 most of the major parts have been found or fabricated in my machine shop.

The tripod has been refinished and awaits photos.

The following parts are needed to restore the Unitron Model 152, 4” Equatorial telescope and hopefully upgrade it to a Photographic Model 155.

Missing parts needed to finish basic Model 152.
1. Heavy tube coupling for 4 3/8” O.D. tubing that the Super Focuser Screws into.
2. RA hour setting circle, black with white numerals.
3. Pair of tube clamps for sun projection rod.
4. Sun projection screens and rod.
5. 40mm Finder scope.
6. Any of the early Unitron catalogs.
7. Tripod shelf with or without metal brackets.
8. Dew shield/dew cap.
9. Lens cap/dust cap.
10. 2 Early Scalloped Trunion Nuts.


Parts needed to upgrade the 152 to a 155C.
1. Uniclamp Mounting Brackets to mount the 2.4” guide scope on the 4”scope.
2. Unibalance for 4” tube.
3. D=60mm f=700mm guide scope.
4. Model 152 clock drive.

The following parts have been fabricated or otherwise located and purchased and are not needed to finish this scope.
1. Super rack and pinion focusing mechanism with clamps.
2. Scope cradle/saddle that screws onto the end of the RA shaft and hold the telescope tube.
3. Worm gear and associated parts.
4. 40mm Finder scope.
5. Set screw for 40mm finder scope rings.
