No, your eyes do not deceive you ... yes, you are looking at a funnel cloud, in the desert, at the southern edge of today's storm that let loose over Pahrump, Nevada, USA. It was mesmerizing.

BTW, this photo also made the NBC Las Vegas news broadcast via the National Weather Service this same day. Never underestimate the "right place/right time" factor in photography. :-)
