Your comment helps viewers because it adds context. It is indeed a haunting image. Once again, your context for it includes knowledge of its original purpose, so you can envision "what might have been" but we could not do so until now. All I saw, at least before your added the commentary below it, are the empty eyes of those cavernous windows, and the stub of a nose between them, pressed to a wooden bar. I felt as if I was looking into the helmet of an ancient warrior, but I could not see him. Thanks, Nancy, for adding this context. It shows us how important context can be when reading and interpreting photographs. We have the option of presenting our images to our viewers without or without context, which ultimately will help determine how they see them, and what they see in them.

Thanks, Phil ...

This image came from a shoot I did yesterday of an abandoned construction site - one of the victims of the housing crash. This would have been a huge luxury home, but it's far more fascinating as an empty, haunted shell. The day was cloudy and dark with intermittent rain, so it certainly fit the somber mood of this family-less home. There were undoubtedly, at one time, feelings of excitement, hope, success, pride, etc. as this home was being "born," but it's long been crippled by neglect and failure. I was immediately drawn to it, understanding what neglect, hopelessness, lost dreams, emptiness, loneliness all feel like. It begged for empathy.

Same suggestion here, Nancy. Resize so that image fits the page without forcing the reader to scroll. This is one of your most powerfully abstract images -- brooding, scarred, and empty. I feel as if I am staring back into time, but the past will not come forth to greet me. There are no eyes in those windows. Yet I feel as if I am being watched and judged by history.

I don't know what you are learning but in this shot it looks like the work it self is watching you

I love the monochromatic colors and the tone.
