December 20

Tek River

We woke up at about 6:30 am, Leo and Isaac went to take another bath at the river, and I started to question their sanity it was cold!.

My feet hurt a bit from the walking. We had breakfast and started the walk.

Kukenan River

At about 9:50 am we arrived at the crossing of the Kukenan river, neither river is large, both are crossed by wading, but both can rise rapidly and unexpectedly if there are rains upstream, hence it is best to get across them at the first opportunity, both coming and going. (In the rainy season when these streams are swollen, guides sometimes have to tie a line from bank to bank to get trekkers across safely; and the streams can be uncrossable at times, forcing delays.)

The Kukenan River campsite is by the river on the Roraima side, and a pleasant site, but it is not infrequently plagued with those biting bugs &^$^$$& called puri-puris, and mosquitos, too, as it was the whole trip.

By that time I have reached a deal with Leonel, and asked him to get my camera gear also for more money and he agreed thank God!. I was afraid of getting down because a bad step, and I didn't knew the walk, also my shoulder was hurting a lot because of the weight and I was injured.

There we took some rest before crossing the river, and we had cookies and peanuts. At each stop I smoked once. I couldn't smoke more than that, because I knew I was going to need all the strenght I could get.

Base camp

This is were you stop and rest before going up.

I got no pictures of it, but at 10 minutes by this camp, there is a small river and waterfall when you take a bath.... Hummmm better not! I put my feet there, and I swear! I have never ever have been in such cold water! I literally froze there! Time stopped, and almost my heart too!.

Now that I'm safe again home, I think I should have been in a very good health, that water was for seals! not for people! what was wrong whith my mind? I have no clue.
