Cochran Charcoal Kilns

at the end of the Cochran Road

Driving on the scenic Cochran Road for 13 miles will bring you to these extraordinary kilns sitting out in the middle of nowhere.
They were probably constructed around 1882 and were probably used to make charcoal which was needed in the smelting process for silver mining.
They're on private land and you have to view them from afar.
The kilns were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

Wonderful photo and info. Imagine how hot it would be, tending these kilns. John
