Hobo Joe

Buckeye, Arizona

A 25 foot tall statue located just off the main road going through Buckeye, there were only 2 of these statues left as of 1989. I wonder if this is the only one left??
The plaque reads "Hobo Joe built by and stands in memory of Marvin Ransdell (1928-1988) by his good friend Ramon Gillum July 1989."
The nice folks at the local Chamber of Commerce said Hobo Joe has nothing to do with the history of Buckeye and that the Hobo Joe restaurant owner was good friends with the man who owned the Big Boy Restaurants.
They said the statue is a pretty scary sight to come upon in the dark of night. I suggested the city, which doesn't like the statue, try to sell it on eBay but they didn't think that was such a good idea at this time.

other sizes: small medium large original auto
