Cleator

on the road to Crown King

This area was known as Turkey Creek Mining District and was a placer gold site starting in 1864. The dirt road shown here was the original route for "Murphy's Impossible Railroad" that climbed on up to Crown King.
James P. Cleator came to the area around 1905 with $10,000 he made on a mining claim and with a partner established businesses here and the town of Cleator.
