The house is located at the end of a long driveway in the Harold Bell Wright Estates. I was fortunate enough to run into a neighbor who was also a big Harold Wright fan (owning all 19 of his books) who gave me permission to go onto the grounds for a photo. The estate buildings are on the National and Arizona Registers of Historic Places. All the streets in the neighborhood are named after characters in his books.
Between 1902 and 1942 he wrote "inspirational literature" that sold for over $10 million. His most famous work is "Shepherd of the Hills". He produced many shows of this play in order to raise money for Tucson charities.
TB brought him to the sunshine and clean air of Tucson and in 1920 he found an isolated 160 acre parcel of land 5 miles out from the city near Speedway. Here he built his desert home in 1922. Mr. Wright did much charity for St. Mary's Hospital and was highly regarded by all who knew him.
He died in 1944 in California.
