Chicago Store

130 E. Congress Street

Selected in 1999 as the best music store in Tucson, the Chicago Store recently had a fire but is open and doing business as repairs go on.

We moved to Tucson in 1948 and after my father graduated from UofA he worked at the Chicago Store for many years repairing musical instruments. I think more people remember it as the picture depicts than as a J.C. Penney's.

The Chicago Store! Heavens no. This was J.C.Penneys store years before, when I was young, in elementary school. It was a neat place to shop for clothes and other, I'm sure. But Chicago Store? Heaven help us! Who in Chicago would do such an awful thing and paint it such an awful garrish color of barn red in downtown Tucson, the ol' Pueblo!
