In 1865 Hiram S. Stevens built his house of four rooms with adobe walls two feet thick. The ceilings were fifteen feet high with a roof of adobe over straw supported by dried saguaro cactus ribs. "It was the grandest house in town. "
"Hiram, discouraged about business reversals, committed suicide in the house and tried unsuccessfully to take his wife, Petra, with him."

Bricks from the Presidio wall were used in its construction. The large pepper tree in front of the house dates back to ca. 1875 and was the first pepper tree to grow in Tucson.
Today it's part of the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block and is connected to the Fish House.
