Opening on July 4, 1925, the Dipper cost about $150,000. Very popular in this beach amusement park called Belmont, everything was shut down and closed up in 1976. It was going to be demolished but a group of citizens called "Save the Coaster" got the Dipper designated as a National HISTORIC LANDMARK and had ownership transferred to them.
San Diego enthusiastically welcomed the Giant Dipper back after some restoration work and today Belmont Park and the 2600' roller coaster are doing great.
