June 30: The obvious route to Cedar City from Sacramento would be via US 50, but instead we opted for the longer route of US 95 to Tonopah for our first day’s travels. Stops along the way were the 1860’s Fort Churchill, Buckland Station, Hawthorne, and finally Tonopah itself, followed by a side-trip to the semi-ghost town of Belmont. The Tonopah Mining Park is a sight to behold for any ghost town or mine enthusiast. The people who have spent so much time and effort on this project have done an amazing job. Tonopah, founded in the early 1900’s, is definitely a place worth spending some time in. Friendly locals and one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been to.
