Convict Lake

Saturday morning we broke camp and headed down from the mountains to our last supply stop in Bishop before making our way back North towards Mammoth Lakes. Before we reached the exit, we turned onto a side road to the Mt. Morrison Cemetary and then onto dirt making our way briefly along the powerline before turning uphill and to the shelf above Convict Lake. At the dead-end above Convict lake, we were able to look down to the lake and across the bowl to the multi-colored Sevah Cliffs on the West side of Laurel Mountain.

When we started our descent back to 395, the Service Engine Soon light came on. I didn't want to chance stopping off-pavement, so once we were back at the cemetery I opened the hood and started investigating. A vacuum line had broken, so I patched it up thanks to a fix I carried that I learned from Steve of FreelanderLiving. After fixing the vacuum line, the vehicle refused to start, effectively leaving us stranded!! Turned out that corrosion on the ground cable from a previous bad battery had not been removed and was preventing a good ground contact. Cleaned it up and off we went.
