Dominica (pronounced Dom-in-'eek-a), is in the Caribbean's Lesser Antilles and lies between the French islands of Guadeloupe, to the northwest, and Martinique, to the southeast.
Update - 29 October 2017: Dominica was shattered by Category 5 Hurricane Maria's ~160mph/2570kp) on 18 September 2017. Over two dozen people lost their lives while most of the island's ~72,000 residents lost their material lives. Online images elsewhere document the tremendous amount of damage to the island's natural and man-made works.
