The rubber leg ascent of Mt. Ashlu's East Ridge

There's nothing like 5000' feet of elevation gain and peak altitude of 8500' to make you realize you are not in the shape you'd like to be!

Paul and I did this stunning route on Sunday, July 4, 2004. What an awesome area! Other than a bit of a bush thrash for the first 1 km, this is a great class 2-3 day out in a spectacular alpine area. It’s too bad that access to this area via the Ashlu Mainline logging road may soon be lost due to deteriorating road conditions.
