Gangi is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, located about 80 km southeast of Palermo. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 7,449 and an area of 127.1 km2(from Wikipedia Lexikon)

Google led me to these great photos of Gangi. Thank you Franz. My main interest is Seminara genealogy: Joseph Seminara, born c. 1872, married Anna née Seminara, born c. 1871 in Gangi. They emigrated to Philadelphia 1904-07. Please contact me if you have information. Ned neddana@verizon.net

SEMINARA/CAPRA I have visited Gangi myself seeking information on my family. My grandfather Salvatore Capra (born 1878 Gangi) and grandmother Catilda (Nasello) Capra (born 1880 Gangi) were cousins of Mamie & Anthony Seminara. My grandmother's mother's maiden name was Seminara, from Gangi. Your photos are absolutely beautiful and Gangi is worth the trip. Does anyone know the name of the cemetery there in Gangi? I just can't remember.

MY FATHER WAS BORN IN GANGI IN 1880 AND MIGRATED TO NIAGARA FALLS NY IN 1911. AS A CHILD I REMEMBERED VISITING COUSINS IN PHILADELPHIA, AS I RECALL HE HAD A POULTRY MARKET AND LIVED ON MIFFLIN STREET. THIS GENTLEMAN HAD TWO DAUGHTERS MILLIE AND MAMIE. ARE YOU RELATED TO THIS BRANCH OF THE SEMINARA FAMILY?????

I reside in Philadelphia (USA) but have been visiting Gangi since I was barely two years old. It is my mother's hometown. Mr. Bauer, you have really captured the magical essence of the town in your photographs! I enjoyed your photo gallery immensely and have sent it to friends and relatives who have never visited the town.

Hello fellow Gangitano. I am also studdying my family tree. My Great Grandmother was Angela Glorioso. She probably was born about 1875-1888. She married Andrea Blando. They both met in Kansas City in the US about 1900-1903. However they moved back to Gangi, Sicily about 1907-11 (aprox) Angela Glorioso had siblings / Rosa (Morice), Santo Glorioso, Stephano Glorioso, if you have any hints or information you would like to share you can email me. I RSEARCHEDE SUBJECT AND FOUDTHAT BOOKERT ASHINGTON TRAVELLD TO SICILY IN 1910 (BOOK TITLE"LOWEST OF THE LOW" HE VISITED THE SULPHUR MINES AND INDEED FOUND THAT CHILDREN WERE PURCHASED BY MOINE OWNER AND WERE CARRYIUG ROCKS FROM THE MINES! My father,Antonio Vazzano,was born in Gangi in 1912.He was the son of Giuseppa Blando and Francesco Vazzano. I visited Gangi in May 2008 and met the Blando side of my family. Needless to say, it was the most memorable experience of my life. Gangi is even more beautiful than my father and grandparents could ever discribe. Each day I think about returning.

I was born in Gangi have been there many time i have family there ciappina scavuzzo and scagarellos, i am hopping to take my family there next year . there fruits are the best and the peopel are the greatest .

Hi Franz, Your pictures of Gangi truly capture the beauty of this glorioust town on the mountain. I was born in Gangi and moved to the U.S. when I was 8yrs. old. Although I have traveled to many different parts of the world, I have yet to find a place that is as magnifacent as Gangi.

Dear Gangitani I am a Gangitano that recently moved to USA as a scientist. With pleasure I found that there is a Sottile family foundation and many other people that proudly cite Gangi as the beginning of the American adventure. I feel that language limits the desire to ask and to know more about ancestry, I feel myself (in USA) in a limbo however I still speak Sicilian (Gangi dialect) and I know very well Gangi. DEAR FRANZ MY DAD CARMELO "GLORIOSO" SEMINARA WAS BORN IN GANGI IN 1880 I HAVE MADE MANY TRIPS BACK TO GANGI AND ATTEMPTED TO FIND MY GRANDPARENTS HISTORY WITHOUT MUCH SUCCESS. WE HAVE MET THE SEMINARAS THAT RUN THE BEST GELATO CAFE IN PIAZZA DEL POPOLO AND ALT5HOUGH WE HAVE SAME NAME WE REALLY ARE NOT RELATED. WE STAYED AT PRETENTIOUS GANGIVECCHIO AT EASTER TIME A FEW YEARS AGO AND UNFORTUNATELY AFTER PAYING IN ADVANCE, NO HEAT AND THEY FAILED TO ADVISE THAT MAJOR MEAL EASTER WOULD BE SERVED AT NOON! OF COURSE THERE WAS NO REFUND. FOR THOSE PLANNING ON VISITING GANGIVECCHIO, CLEAR PRICING WELL IN ADVANCE. FRANZ, YOUR PHOTOS ARE EXCELLENT AND I ENJOYED THEM VERY MUCH.

i will be traveling with a group in sicily in mid-oct and we have heard about the restaurant in a monastery in gangi- can anyone please tell us how far is this from cefalu and how the drive would be.

Salvatore: I was born in Sicily and lived in gangi until I was two and we then came to the United States. I presently reside in Philadelphia. I will be traveling to Gangi in August, 2008, with my wife and children. I would like to know if anyone on this ite used a shuttle service from the airport to get to gangi, if so would you reccomend the company.

I will be visiting Gangi for the first time on June 20, 2008. I am going with relatives who also have relatives who were born there and have been able to link my great grandparents with theirs. It's a small world isn't it?. Thank you Lord. I will post more information when I return.

Just returned from Gangi, first vist. Found Seminara family, owners of a coffee shop, but no known relatives of mine. Paternal grand father was Francesco Pantano and his wihe was Rosaria Centinio. Her sister married Santo Seminara, from Gangi. We stayed at The Abbey at Gangivecchio and the food was wonderful.

I just returned from my first visit to Gangi. My gandparents, Pantano and Centinio,were born there in the 1890's. I found the people very helpful and friendly. No one kenew the names but I did find a cafe/bar called Seminara and this is the name of my great aunt Mamie Centinio's husband. We could not establish if they were related but the owner looked like my cousin Seminara. We stayed at The Abbey Gangi Vecchio. Anyone know of other nearby inns?

My Grandfather Guytano Sottile was born in Gangi in around 1885, and I have been back twice, I am going in June of this year 2008 hopeing get some info on how My grandfather fits in to the other Sottiles in Gangi.. If you are going I would recomend a guide who speeks the language and has some connection to the town or the area near by. Mountian people can be Shy to strangers Good luck and keep in touch in Tom Sottile

I will be visiting Gangi on 4/11/08 and would like to find out some information about his family, including the possibility of learning if I still have relatives there.
