Belhaven Bridge

John Muir Country Park

This morning was sunny and warm so, after doing some jobs around the house, this afternoon I set out with Mack to take some photos. We had to leave Katie behind because yesterday she was spade so was feeling a wee bit sore. I have had a very long week, different meetings each day, in different towns around the country separated by several hundred miles by car and 'plane. So I was really looking forward to a walk and the Nikon to my eye.

Anyway, 5 minutes after leaving the house, the clouds blew in and the heavens opened, bringing our adventure to a premature end. I had wanted to take this picture for some time. It is the bridge at Belhaven Bay at John Muir Country Park. At low tide it provides a crossing over a small river from one side of the bay to the other. At high tide, both sides of the bridge are under water, so the bridge sits in the water looking quite odd. The picture in my mind was of the bridge set in the blue water, surrounded by the yellow sands with fluffy white clouds in the sky, as the sun sets providing a golden glow. Instead, mother nature provided us with dark clouds, heavy rain, black and white, and a few tones of grey....

So, next time the sun and high tide coincide, and I am not in the office or in a meeting, I will take a colour picture of the same scene to show you the contrast. On a sunny day, this beach is better than anything the Med has to offer !

I do like the reflection and the isolated look of this bridge as it sits in the water.

Looks like you might need some waders to cross that bridge.
