These pictures are taken during a two week period when I was working with BP in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
This is a fascinating country, a real melting pot of people and cultures. It borders Iran, Russia, Armenia and Georgia, and has a coastline on the Caspian Sea which is the largest inland body of water in the world.
It was at the centre of the old Silk Route, and has a long history which is represented in the historic old town. Since the 1900s, it was part of the Soviet Union, and gained independence in 1991. Today it is at the centre of a new oil boom, with the opening recently of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline which is the largest international pipeline in the world.
