The Outer Hebrides, North Uist, South Uist, Benebecula, Eriskay

The Outer Hebrides are the remote jewels of Scotland. Beyond them lies the Atlantic and across generations, Nova Scotia. Incredibly beautiful and spirit-filled to some, stark and unforgiving to others. I stand with the former. Reminds me of the tundra of Alaska except with houses here and there. And there is the Sea, the ever-present Sea royally wed to and interlacing with the Land. Lucky are those few who get to live there.

Only about 6,000 I'm told, Anne, which is few and far between. I'm also told that the fishing is excellent, which I need to go back and verify for myself some day. Don't know when that might be though. Beautiful place and wonderful people there, a gem which I hope lasts a long, long time.
