Walking in the Lötschental Valley

Our base for some summer weeks in the fairy-tale village of Ferden, in the UNESCO World Heritage listed Lötschental Valley in the Swiss canton of Valais, is a perfect place for walking, either long distance or shorter walks between villages which perch on hills along the River Lonza, a rushing aqua glacial river. The valley stretches for about 10 km by road from Goppenstein, the last point by train, to Falferalp, the end of the road. However walking up and down hills, in and around villages, across bridges and through woods and pastures, involves a far greater distance.
