Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick

Shakespeare's country. An overnight stay here in order to attend a play at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Entrancing history in this very Tudor town.

The Swan Theatre, part of the theatre complex on the River Avon, is a reconstructed version of an Elizabethan theatre - round, high wooden seats sloping down to a centre stage. The action takes place very close to the audience and the atmosphere surely reminiscent of Shakespeare's time. We saw "Arden of Faversham", author unknown but a comedy/farce, murder done in the olde English of its time but in modern costume and much fun. Blood, plotting, murder and mayhem. Blog

A short drive took us to Warwick where we particularly admired The Lord Leycester Hospital, established in 1571, the building already 150 years old at that stage.
