Copenhagen 2014 - 2 galleries

After two weeks in Stockholm we travelled by train to Copenhagen where we stayed for four days, before beginning our journey back to Australia.

"With its popular green parks and streets made for pedal power, Copenhagen invites you to explore its sights by foot, bicycle, kakyak and waterbus." guide

We enjoyed visiting Christiansborg Palace and Amelienborg Palace, both residences of the Danish Royal Family, and also Rosenborg Castle, now a museum of 400 years of Danish kings. The Treasury beneath the castle is also open to the public and contains the heavily guarded crown jewels and royal crowns. We were pleasantly surprised by the comfortable lack of severe formality and security at the royal palaces - photography, even flash, was permitted and staff friendly and relaxed.

The beautiful park, King's Garden", surrounding Rosenborg Castle is the country's oldest royal garden and is always open to the public.

Nyhaven, the 17th century waterfront and canal, lined with brightly painted houses from that time, has popular cafes and bars and is alive with visitors. Old schooners and sailing ships echo the canal's nautical past. We took a Grand Tour of the surrounding canals, under 14 bridges. Hans Christian Andersen lived in a house on Nyhaven.

In spite of dull weather we thoroughly enjoyed our time in this lovely city.
