2010 has been a break-out year for Shawn. He is consistently being mentioned along with the best in the business when it comes to making balisongs. He has some new, innovative designs coming out that are exciting to see. He stopped taking custom orders so he can focus on the list he already has in place, as well as have the freedom to continue experimenting in his own work. And he came out with a stellar collaboration run with knifemaker Les George. One of the things about Shawn is that he is constantly trying out new blade profiles, grinds, materials and designs. Pushing the envelope, yet his work always remains polished and superbly fitted.
One of Shawn's major projects this year has been the Lum Tanto series. This series of about 10 or so knives features blade grinds inspired by the late Bob Lum. By experimenting off of the base style he developed for these blades, Shawn created what seems to be a new design, which one collector calls a "Tee-hawk."
Special thank you to Dawkind and others for many of these pictures
