Living in Hongg Kong long before digital cameras came along, I cut my photo teeth shooting in southeast Asia and quick trips to Thailand were one of my favorite weekend getaways. These were taken almost entirely on Fujichrome Provia & Velvia film with a few from my earliest visit on Kodachrome 64.
Thailand is one of the most photographic destinations in Asia - and the World. It has so much to recommend: gracious, friendly people, lush landscape scenery, wonderful temples, clear blue waters, world class beaches, great values in top level resorts and hotels and my favorite food in the world. Oh, and some exotic nightlife for those so inclined. For those who have never 'done' Asia, my recommendation to them for their first destination is always Thailand. Of course they always choose China or Japan. But once they've seen those and dealt with the crowds & high costs (Japan) and the crowds & horrendous pollution (China), they're usually glad they got to see them, but quite often never want to go back.
Of course Bangkok is hot, as polluted as it gets and humid. But go in the cool, dry season Nov-Jan and it's cooler, dryer and the air is far better. And with the traffic, visitors don't have to spend too long in Bangkok with everything else theire is to see.
