I spent the end of last week (4 days) fishing the flats for the first time. It was a learning expedition to see how my boat would work on the flats. The boat was great, but the water was cold 46 to 48 degrees, and we were only able to catch school size fish. We caught fish in the 19 to 26 inch range using white and glitter chartreuse on 5 and 7 inch bass assassins jigged in 8 to 13 feet of water. I'll be back doing some preseason trips out of the South River next week. With the cold water still here I'm expecting a good long trophy season, and with the big influx of fresh water today, I'm hoping for a high Young of the Year count.
