This was during a trip to Syria in 2004, the ruins of Palmyra are located in the middle of the Syrian desert, with the next nearest town being located 150km away on either direction. This place is relatively undiscovered as a tourist destination, and it is quite possible to have it all to yourself in the early morning hours.
