One of many geologic wonders in sandstone found along the East Kaibab Monocline carved via what geologists call "oblique-slip fault-propagation-folding". This area is found at the southern end of the Cockscomb fault. The Cockscomb fault was formed 50-80 million years ago when the ancient Farallon techtonic plate subducted below the North American plate. The grinding of those two plates together deformed the land along the Cockscomb fault to produce some of the most fascinating and enduring geology on Earth.
