Upper Antelope Canyon | The Rimrocks

The Rimrocks

Also known as "The Toadstools" or the Paria Rimrocks it is one of the most famous southwest USA photo opportunities that you won't find on a map. It is located on BLM land outside Page, Arizona USA on the Utah side of the border. If you ask at the local BLM office they will laugh at the idea they are trying to keep it secret, but then they give you an unmarked photocopy of a topological map where they mark by hand its location for you. :)

The scientific name for a mushroom-like rock formation is "hoodoo". They are usually found in groups like those shown in these images and are collectively known as "hoodoos".

2010 Note:
Since 2004 when these pictures were taken the BLM has erected a sign at the trail head next to highway 89 leading to these hoodoos and it is now commonly marked on maps showing their location. They have become a popular photographer's destination since Larent Martres described them in his very popular book, "Photographing the Southwest". They are now among the most photographed hoodoos in the world.
