The Land of Secrets

There is a little known place in a huge arid, inhospitable territory of such vastness that even the locals are confused as to what lies within it's borders. Most of them think of it as a great wasteland of little intrinsic value.

The rugged land is uninviting and difficult for all who chose to venture there. But persistence is rewarded with stark beauty and a natural richness unlike anywhere else on Earth. Parts of this hostile land has been on fire for centuries and will smolder for centuries longer, yet few people know about it. Hidden deep within its many recesses is a wealth of geologic, anthropologic, paleontologic and archeologic treasures.

Everything it has to offer isn't particularly well known. It gives up it's secrets begrudgingly and when speaking of various places within it, folks charged with it's preservation always end their comments with... "You won't tell anyone where it is, will you?". The places they speak of are rarely marked on any map or identified by signs on the ground when passing nearby them.

The concern is that visitors will come in droves and vandalize or inadvertently destroy it's many natural resources or desecrate cultural heritage sites or otherwise spoil its delicate, pristine beauty.

And so, for its preservation to future generations, exact locations will not be provided and it shall simply be called "The Land of Secrets".
