I grew up in a rural village of beauty and culture in the highlands of the Philippines. A village name Barlig, or in local term Fiallig, which is specifically situated in the eastern of Mountain Province. It is inhabited by the Balangao Tribe, which is part by the collective name Igorot.
From the challenge of my culture vanishing into time and history, I thought picturing them into paper literally, is one best way of saving them. During my innocent age I am filled with so much wish to take photographs but never had the money to buy a camera for this suppressed interest. For long long years and finally got a job in the busy city of Manila, I was inspired by my employer Mr. Ed Gerlock, who is a great Photographer and a good friend, and a mentor to me. The door from my inner culture towards an experience of working with the poor and neglected elderly in the suburbs of Metro Manila totally challenged me and changed my ways of looking at life through photography.
I am not a very good photographer. I just like to capture and document anything around me, what is possibly lost, a daily life at present, the stories, expression, values, issues, culture and nature. I studied SW as a profession and now hoping to change career to Nursing. For this reason of I consider myself more as Photography hobbyist, quite a beginner most of the time!
Your comments, suggestion and any support is greatly appreciated.
