One of the highlights of this trip to Ecuador was the scenic train ride from Alausí to La Nariz del Diablo (The Devil’s Nose). Deep in the Andes mountains, the tracks go through several switchbacks that offer breathtaking views of the beautiful landscape. We took a five-hour bus ride to get from Quito to Alausí, and the views from the road as we approached Alausí were equally impressive!
The train is old and quaint, and it is operated by an engineer and three brakemen. Cloudy day, but the views were great High in the Andes, the tracks snake their way to our destination
Looking out the window at the views below. Two rivers merge not far from this spot. pg The views from the road were equally impressive!
Back and forth we go. The three happy brakesmen. La Nariz del Diablo (The Devil's Nose)
Above the clouds. We followed this river for quite a while. On our way back
Fertile land and hard-working people. Unforgettable views.
