Hawaii's Aloha Festivals Parade 2005

     The Aloha Festivals' theme for 2005 is Na Honu Hawai'i or "The Spirit Within" - a tribute to the heritage of the Hawaiian people, the life of the land and sea.

     Aloha Festival was first organized as Aloha Week by a businessman, Harry Nordmark in 1947. He had a concept of an "aloha" celebration, as to keep Hawaiian culture alive after War World II.

     Today, Aloha Festivals is one of major annual celebrations in Hawaii. This event involves all 8 islands: O'ahu, Big Island of Hawai'i, Maui, Lana'i, Kaho'olawe, Kaua'i, Moloka'i and Ni'ihau. You will also see a distinctive color for each island's horseriders (pa'u), which will be introduced in the photos.

I was just out there in HI last month, and was able to attend the Aloha Parade. Now that I'm home, I realize that when several of the Pa'u Riders came by, I wasn't fast enough to take a picture of all of the signs preceeding the princesses so I could identify them by island. Could you tell me what the traditional colors are for each of the islands? Thanks.

would like to publish an image of the Aloha Festival in the Travel Section of the Los Angeles Times - we pay space rates depending upon placement and size.

Aloha Aukipa, beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing. I wanted to make a some comments in regards of the 2005 Aloha Festival Parade. There was all eight Islands. Molokai and Ni'ihau was combined as one unit. Kaho`olawe was also there, with her entire members. The photo IMG_6918W.jpg, is a paniolo from the Kaho`olawe Pa`u Unit. His name is Henry Fong. We worked extremely hard to raise the funds we needed to get to the Aloha Festival Parade and represent the Island of Kaho`olawe. Do you have more parade photos of Kaho`olawe Pa`u Unit?
