Just bought this lens. Thought some of our readers would like to see the best, and worst of this lens. Overall, im taken back by how wide 10mm is, equivilant to 16mm on a ye olde film camera. Ive never owned a lens this wide before and im looking forward to lots of lovely landscapes from it!

Overall in summary, this is what I found with this lens so far;

Pro's.

-Ultra fast focus. Lens focus's once, locks. I have not been able to fool the focus yet, try as I might.
-Very precise and easy to use manual focus ring. Full time as well only let down by the mirror type eye piece of my D300 rebel.
-Build quality overall. Im impressed. Included a soft cary case and lens hood.

Con's.

-Purple fringing can be seen in shots with high contrast. This has shown up in 6 x 4 prints.
-Soft focus in some of the corners.
-Strange contour Barrel (moustashe) distortion. This was also seen in another sample at the store.
-Poor resolution images. The resolution is comparable to the kit lens @ 17mm v 18mm. See centre crop sample shots. This would only show on very large prints.
-Build quality. My first sigma lens. These sigma lens caps are terrible. AF/MF switch could be better as well.

I have down sized these shots to 1200 x 800 and left them uncompressed so the full shots are around 800 kb, so watch your bandwidth.

26 august 2005. I have returned the Sigma lens to the shop for a refund. For me, I wanted to do a lot of landscape enlargements which the len's resolution showed to have been a problem. I hope to buy another wide angle lens and hopefully post some similar test shots with that soon!

7 December 2005. Well I have finally bought a replacement lens, the Canon EF-S 10-22mm F3.5-4.5 usm.
