Swan Bell Tower Perth Western Australia

The Swan Bell Tower. Contraversal? Expensive? Waste of Tax payer's money? A lot of critism has been leveled at the government for commissioning this building. Is it beautiful? Was it worth while?

I could have photographed the tower in far better light than this. Dusk or even late evening as the effect lighting around and on the tower is quite good. (I may still do so)
But I decided that the lighting for this shoot would equal the sceptism that has been leveled at the tower. Harsh and unforgiving. It is a land mark that is strangely shunned by the locals.
I have to admit, I haven't been too interested in the tower untill now. In hind sight it was well worth the visit. The bell room in the centre is staffed by experienced bell pullers who are willing to let you try your arm at chiming a bell or two. make no mistake it is a lot harder than it looks!
On the fifth level you can see the bells turning over with the "clappers" striking the bells on the inside. The bell room is encased in thick double glazed windows so you don't have to worry about the noise.
The largest bell here weighs a very hefty 831 kilograms. Far more than the bell puller that is for sure. If you do not know what you are doing, the swinging bell can easily lift the bell puller clear off the ground hence the supervision and training required to be a bell puller.
