construction of a HO-scale replica of the Santa Fe Railroad depot at Mountainair, New Mexico

May 15, 2011: The model is finished and ready for the public.
Later , when installed on my layout, lighting, scenery, people and vehicles along with power lines and propane tanks will add to form a realistic setting. A total of 55 work hours went into converting a pile of white plastic parts into the completed model. Thanks to all again who have contributed!

Update May 3, 2011: all that's still missing is some touchup with paint, weathering, and adding the downspouts and vents.

Update April 17, 2011: Work on the layout model is progressing. Up next are the addition of the windows, brick parts, stove pipes, roof, etc.

Jan.11th, 2011: V4.2 has been set up. The aluminum parts are templates for cutting the outside brick floors. A few more refinements will get us to the production model in V4.3.

Jan.5, 2011: Last night we built V4.2. We discovered some more details that need to be changed. Once done we'll be very close to a "production run" of the parts, likely to be named "V4.3". Changes still needing attention include the loading dock, interior walls, "no-shine" inside walls (the brown parts), and some alignment adjustments.

Update Jan.4, 2011: V4.1 has been put together. Cutting for V4.2 has been done; parts will be put together shortly. Upcoming V4.3 should be our "production run" now, with only minor changes still necessary.

Update Dec.3, 2010: V3.0 has been run through the machine, including the first windows and major updates on the walls and addition of a patio roof, and a correction to the chimney. Drawings for V4.1 are already in the making where we will address the ground plate, lighting, and interiors. We will be using Plastruct's Spanish Tile roof sheet to replace the cardboard used for the mockups. Stay tuned for more updates.

Update November 2010: A second run through the CNC-machine has produced the parts for V2.0. After a lot of juggling we have decided we need to make more changes that will help recreate not just Mountainair but also the other standard depots of Santa Fe's Clovis Subdivision, among them the one at Ft.Sumner. The CAD drawings along with the plans and blueprints we have might enable us to do the other depots in the future. As for my layout, I will need Vaughn and Melrose as well.
Changes necessary for V3.0 include a thicker and taller chimney, provide for wire channels for lighting, produce the concrete roof that'll sit underneath the Spanish tile shingles, add the interior and ramps, design a floor plate, provide for easy construction, and much more...

BTW: If you happen to have drawings of the Santa Fe depot and the Harvey House in Belen, NM (and the Abo Canyon bridges) then PLEASE get in touch with me!!!
